Do You Need a CAD File to 3D Print? (No, Here's Why)
One of the most common reasons people never try 3D printing is the belief that they need a CAD file first. For most projects, you do not. Here is why.
Where the myth comes from
Plenty of print shops will take a finished file and print it, but they will not make the file for you. That leaves you needing CAD software, the skills to use it, or an engineer. So people assume printing starts with CAD.
The scan-to-print alternative
If you have a physical object, we 3D scan it and build the print-ready model for you. The scan becomes the file. No drawings, no modeling on your end.
What if you only have an idea?
Then we start from your sketch or description and handle the engineering. The point of our workflow is that the technical part is our job, not yours.
When CAD does help
If you already have a CAD file, great, we can print from it directly. But not having one is never the thing that stops your project.
